I first found Jane where she was writing FSOG fanfic on her blog and I was so entertained, especially the thoughts of Taylor, Christian Grey’s bodyguard. She offered her book ‘The Education of Sebastian’ to me to read in the Fall of 2012. I was so enthralled that I read the book over and over again. I was anxiously awaiting the sequel and she provided an unedited copy to ‘hold me over’! I was so thrilled to read this story of Sebastian and Caro and it picks up 10 years after the end of TEoS. I loved both books so much, that I went ahead and purchased the books for my Kindle.

This story begins with Caro turning 40 and getting ready to head for Afghanistan, as a reporter in war locations. During some required training while she was in Geneva before heading to Afghanistan, she is shocked to see Sebastian as one of the presenters. He is shocked also but furious and ignores her when she wants to speak to him. When he was almost 18 and she had to leave (you really need to read The Education of Sebastian first), he said he would wait the three years for her and expected they would find each other when he turned 21. His heart was broken when he didn’t hear from her and so began his drinking and manwhoring ways. He was forced by his father, a Naval officer, to join the service at 18 and he chose the Marines.

My emotions varied so much with the two characters and my heart just broke for Sebastian. He had uncaring parents and had lived a painful childhood. He loved Caro with all of his heart and had spent the past years angry thinking that she never tried to contact him. At age 28, he still has a temper, acts sullen, and his emotions run the gamut from seeing his beautiful Caro, hating her for not contacting him, and back again. There is still such passion between the two and Jane can write such sensual scenes.

Caro, who has been going by the name of Lee Venzi, has traveled all over the world covering military related stories. As she and Sebastian head to Afghanistan, she finds so many unique stories to write about the Marines and the environment, while taking photos to send to her publisher. I can’t imagine having to live in such war torn countries, using wipes to clean yourself, wearing a flak jacket, and unsure how safe you will be from minute to minute.

I thought I had written a review for this book when I read it around January 2013 but was unable to locate it. This is certainly no reflection on my feelings for this book, the characters, and Jane’s writing. I re-read the book this past week and, even though I knew the various things that would happen, I fell in love all over again and also felt such pain. Jane is a master at describing locations, and I felt like I was there in the mountains, in Italy, Afghanistan and in Long Beach, NY. I don’t know how she does it but she can write such amazing scenes from a male perspective, no matter the age.

I’ve read several of Jane’s books and while I love and enjoy all of her stories, The Education of Sebastian and The Education of Caroline have always held a special place in my heart. When she wrote additional chapters of these stories on her blog, I just loved them so much and wanted more! When Jane decided to combine the two books into one (and with a gorgeous cover by Hang Le), she included the extra chapters and extended epilogues, and her fans still wanted more. I am so excited that her new book, Semper Fi, from Sebastian’s POV, will be out soon. I just know that I will be an emotional mess reading Sebastian’s view, especially over the past 10 years of his life.

No matter which book you choose to read of Jane’s, you will receive such a gift from the joy, love, and friendships, to the bittersweet, and sometimes heartbreaking scenes she so effortlessly writes. Her characters are intelligent, caring and strong. Other characters are just so broken that you think they will never heal. Her writing is flawless, her characters captivating, and always such compelling stories. I can’t recommend Jane’s books enough and believe that you will love them also.

The Education of Caroline The Education Series #2 The Education of edition by Jane HarveyBerrick Romance eBooks Reviews

I enjoyed this storyline. It debastated me that it takes place 10 years later. Given how the first book ended. It's always hard for me when there is a HUGE time gap. All you can think about it what happened during that time and all the things that were missed. Once they find each other again they do have a few hurdles to jump, but it seems to start to resolve relatively quickly. I'm glad that wasn't drawn out. There is a part toward the end that gets a tad emotional and I can only imagine what it must be like to have to deal with what they have to go through.
My ‘Blogging Reader’s Review’ after reading ‘THE EDUCATION OF CAROLINE’ by Author Jane Harvey-Berrick (via Booksmoviesfandoms.wordpress.c o m)

***WARNING Possible SPOILERS if you haven’t read ‘The Education Of Sebastian yet.***

The follow up novel ‘The Education Of Caroline’ continues the story of the then ill-fated summer affair between Caroline ‘Caro’ Wilson and her young love, Sebastian ‘Seb’ Hunter in San Diego, about ten-years later. In this novel, you will read the story in Caroline’s P.O.V. We get to find out how these characters are doing in life, ten years after the bitter end of their summer romance ten-years earlier.

A decade later, Caroline who now goes by her father’s last name and the italian version of her first name, Carolina Venzi. With her new friends, who have no idea of the secrets Carolina left behind from her past, she also has the nickname of ‘Lee’ and lives independently. After leaving San Diego and moving to New York, she struggled with living on her own and dealing with the heartbreaking decision she had to make long ago. Eventually she started to build a life for herself. Now she is a journalist who has seen and traveled to many foreign locations for her work. Her latest assignment is to follow military personnel and to get their story during their deployment to Afghanistan. To be ready to go, she must first attend a ‘hostile environment’ program in Geneva.

Somehow, someway, fate brings her face to face with her past, head-on. Tall, still handsome, older but still as lovely as before, Sebastian crosses paths with her after all of these years. He has a reputation and Carolina has no idea if the present day Sebastian even has any of the ‘old Seb’ still in him or if life has made him a bitter man. This story is truly epic. Despite where life has taken them, underneath the bitterness, their long-lost romance lingers in the back of their minds. Sebastian, the man, meets Carolina, the confident woman.

I recommend this series because the story leads you down so many ups and downs that keep you guessing about what will happen next in their lives. Can they be together after so long? Or has fate proven time and time again that they were destined to fall apart all along? I highly recommend this two-book series because of the depth of these characters – and the challenges of love, moments of heartbreak and the emotional journey their lives are taken on. Can time truly heal all and is love strong enough to survive anything? I love this series! Definitely glad to have had the pleasure of reading this wonderful story by author Jane Harvey-Berrick.
